DRAMA—EASTER VIGIL, YEAR B
Bible reference: Genesis 1:1 - 2:4a
OUR GOOD FRIDGE
CHARACTERS: Narrator, Voice, Refrain, two people to do the actions with the fridge.
PROPS:
|
Fridge, sheet to cover it, defrosting tray, shelving, crispers etc, assorted vegetables and fruit, frozen chicken, fish fingers, assorted seafood, eggs, salad dressings, assorted beverages (including two cans to drink at end of play), leftover containers, cleaning gear, screwdriver, two chairs.
|
(Lights off. Covered fridge is placed in the centre of the stage area. Narrator, Refrain and Voice enter and take up positions)
NARRATOR:
|
In the beginning there was desolation, chaos and definitely no temperature control. Amidst the raging waters, God moved. God decided it was time to create. (Unveil fridge, lights still off)
|
God commanded:
VOICE:
|
Let there be light! (Open fridge door)
|
No, no, we need more light. (Lights come on)
NARRATOR:
|
Then God separated the light from the dark and he called the light Open (Open fridge door) and the darkness Shut. God was pleased with what he was creating and named it the Fridge.
|
REFRAIN:
|
Evening passed and morning came, that was the first day.
|
NARRATOR:
|
Then God commanded,
|
VOICE:
|
Let there be a division between the cold waters and the very cold waters. The very cold waters should be above the other waters (Open freezer compartment) and this division shall be called the Freezer Compartment.
|
NARRATOR:
|
God was pleased with what he had created.
|
REFRAIN:
|
Evening passed and morning came, that was the second day.
|
NARRATOR:
|
By the third day God was really rolling.
|
VOICE:
|
Let there be divides within our fridge so that the water can come together in one place. (Add crispers, defrosting trays, shelving etc to fridge)
|
NARRATOR: God called these divides Crispers and Defrosting Trays. God created
|
other divisions so that there was order and everything would be in its proper place.
|
REFRAIN:
|
God was pleased with what he saw.
|
VOICE:
|
But it's empty! Let the divides be filled with all kinds of plants (Put vegetables in fridge) and fruit (Put fruit in fridge), each in their proper place according to temperature.
|
NARRATOR:
|
God looked around at what he had created and he was very pleased.
|
REFRAIN:
|
Evening passed and morning came, that was the third day.
|
VOICE:
|
Let us put a little man inside our fridge who can turn the light on and off.
|
NARRATOR:
|
So the light ruled when the fridge was open and the little man when the fridge was shut. (Open and shut fridge to try and see little man) God also put other gauges inside fridge to determine temperature. (Indicate gauges) God looked at what he had made and was pleased with what he saw.
|
REFRAIN:
|
Evening passed and morning came, that was the fourth day.
|
NARRATOR:
|
Then God commanded,
|
VOICE:
|
Let the freezer be filled with all kinds of fish from the sea and birds from the chookyard.
|
NARRATOR: So frozen chickens, fish fingers and seafood of all kinds (Put frozen
|
chickens, fish fingers and seafood etc in freezer when mentioned), also eggs, salad dressings, beverages and all kinds of leftovers (Put eggs, salad dressings, beverages and leftovers in fridge when mentioned) filled the fridge. God was pleased with what he had made.
|
REFRAIN:
|
Evening passed and morning came, that was the fifth day.
|
NARRATOR: Then God put all kinds of animals, both large and small, in the fridge
|
(Put hamburgers, meats etc in fridge), and every kind of dead thing. All kinds of ecosystems were created. (Open one of the containers of leftovers and look disgustedly at the contents, hold noses)
|
REFRAIN:
|
God looked around at his creation and saw that it was good.
|
NARRATOR:
|
Then God commanded,
|
VOICE:
|
We shall give this creation to the people to look after and to be good stewards of it.
|
NARRATOR:
|
God gave the humans strict instructions not to abuse the fridge (Person just about to kick fridge looks guilty), and not to misuse it as a resource, and that they were responsible for the maintenance and cleaning (Clean outside of fridge) of the fridge. He said to them:
|
VOICE:
|
Defrost the freezer regularly. (Open freezer and check it, give thumbs up sign)
|
REFRAIN:
|
Do not let the fridge temperature rise above 3 degrees Celsius, (Check fridge gauges) and keep the freezer temperature between -7 and -5 degrees Celsius.
|
VOICE:
|
Do not let CFCs escape from the fridge and mix with the rest of my creation. (Check rear of fridge, look puzzled and shrug)
|
REFRAIN:
|
Observe the use-by dates on all animal and plant life within the fridge (Check use by dates on some things in fridge, open leftovers again and discover they have become even fouler, throw leftovers and a couple of other items away, leaving fridge door open), only eating those that are within the use-by date,
|
VOICE:
|
Do not leave the fridge door hanging open (Realise fridge door is open and quickly shut it, looking guilty), especially in summer.
|
REFRAIN:
|
Leave all service problems to the qualified technician (Person just about to attack fridge with a screwdriver looks guilty and tries to hide it) he would be sending later.
|
NARRATOR:
|
God was very pleased with what he had made, and declared,
|
VOICE:
|
This fridge is good.
|
REFRAIN:
|
Evening passed and morning came, that was the sixth day.
|
NARRATOR:
|
On the seventh day, God looked at his fridge and was still pleased. He knew that humans would look after the fridge, so (optional: at the West end of the day), he rested. And he told humans to do the same. (Two people sit down in chairs with cans of beer/drink, all exit)
