DRAMA - PROPER 23, YEAR B

Bible reference: Hebrews 4:14-16

 

JUST A PRAYER AWAY

 

CHARACTERS:

Person (man or woman) and Jesus, extra to move clock hands and work alarm

 

PROPS:

Clock, alarm, bedding, tooth brush, hair brush, plate of breakfast and tea, chair, desk with telephones, papers, pens etc

 

A large clock in background, spins around, an alarm goes off at intervals. Clock could be constructed out of cardboard, using an extra cast member to move the hands. The person (man or woman) totally ignores Jesus. Jesus follows person through the day, all the time giving and handing the person things, which he/she just grabs, ignoring Jesus.

(Optional silent movie music)

 

 

              PERSON

 

Person is asleep.

 

 

(Alarm) Person wakes up, stretches, looking very happy.

 

Rushes past Jesus, cleans teeth, brushes hair, dresses, gobbles breakfast.

 

Rushes out the door.

Person gets in car, (Sits on chair)

and drives off.(Mimes driving)

 

Arrives at work, (Puts chair behind desk, sits) answers phones, does paper work etc.(Alarm) Home time!

 

Rushes home, past Jesus.

Flops tiredly into chair.

Eats tea, turns on (Imaginary) TV.

 

Gets ready for bed, (Repeat of morning activity) walks tiredly past Jesus.

Prays

Falls asleep

(Light fades)

JESUS

 

Jesus stands by bed waiting for person to awaken...silent vigil.

 

Excited, looking to greet person, but he is ignored...sad.

 

Jesus stands patiently by.

Expects...rejected.

 

 

Waits to say goodbye...rejected.

 

 

 

Stands patiently watching.

 

 

 

Expects...rejected.

 

 

 

Stands patiently waiting.

 

 

REJOICING!!

 

Jesus remains watching.
