DRAMA - FOURTH SUNDAY IN LENT, YEAR C

Bible reference: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21

EAGLE'S WINGS

A mime to be accompanied by music, as provided in the Music Package

CHARACTERS: One

(This mime needs to be rehearsed very carefully with the music to work out where and how the movement fits in. The following script is a guideline only and can easily be adapted to suit the person doing the mime, who should be proficient at mime and able to follow musical cues)

(Enter and stand with back to audience during introduction

Bad day

(Turn around, holding head as if it really hurts)

I'm falling to the ground

(Fall to knees holding head)

It's one of those days again

(Grab hold of heart with one hand, then the other, as if it really aches)

One of those days again

(Grab stomach and double over as if in pain)

What's wrong?

(Hold one hand out to audience, pleading)

Nothing's going right

(Fall down onto all fours and try to crawl)

It's one of those days again

(Collapse in a heap on ground, crying in agony)

One of those days again

(Hear a voice, stop crying, listen)

Until I quieten down, I won't hear his voice

(Look upwards, listening to God)

His words give me a brand new choice

(Point to God, looking surprised)

Gonna make you fly away, away

(Point to self)

High on eagle's wings

(Shake head)

High on eagle's wings

(Gesture no with hand and mouth 'no')

High upon eagle's wings

(Turn away, continue crying in agony)

Bad day

(Hear God's voice again)

A chance for faith to work

(Look up to God and reach up to him)

I know he'll see me through

(Point to self and back to God)

He's never left me yet

(Sit up, draw line from chest to navel as if cutting self open)

(During music pull chest open, pull out insides and hand them up to God, long string threading up to God. Reach up and grab new insides from God and thread them into yourself, gradually pull self up higher)

Gonna fly away

(Pull self up to standing position)

High on eagle's wings

(Close self up again)

High upon eagle's wings

(Reach up and take needle and thread from God)

High upon eagle's wings

(Sew self up from navel to chest)

Gonna fly away

(Reach up smiling and happy, take hold of God's hand)

High on eagle's wings

(Holding onto God's hand, walk forward joyfully)

High upon eagle's wings

(Joyously extend arms up in praise to God)

High upon eagle's wings

(Gesture to incorporate whole of audience, then lift arms up in praise to God and freeze)
