Sing the Feast: Additional resources

The Additional Resources section of Sing the Feast, musicians’ edition, (published 1997 by Openbook Publishers) contains alternative settings by various composers of specific parts of the liturgy. These can be substituted, if desired, for the equivalent part of the liturgy in any of the Sing the Feast settings, or any form of the holy communion service. The texts of these additional resources are included here for convenience and because, in some cases, the texts vary slightly from those in the complete orders of service. The parts of the service comprising these Additional Resources, with the names of the composers of the settings, are as follows:

Lord, have mercy (Francine Schultz)

Glory to God in the highest (Francine Schultz)

This is the feast (Tanya Pohl)

What shall I render (Peg Russell)

Jesus, Lamb of God (Robin Mann)

Let the vineyards (Andrew Channon)

Song of Simeon (Robin Mann)

Thank the Lord (Francine Schultz)

LORD, HAVE MERCY

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST

Refrain:

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God’s people on earth.

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God’s people on earth.

Lord God, heavenly king,

almighty God and Father,

we worship you, we give you thanks,

we praise you for your glory.

Lord Jesus Christ,

you are the Lamb of God,

you take away the sin of the world:

      have mercy on us.

Lord Jesus Christ,

the Father’s only Son,

you are seated at our Father’s right hand:

      receive our prayer.

Lord Jesus Christ,

you are the holy one,

you alone are the most high God,

      with the Holy Spirit,

in the glory of God the Father.

THIS IS THE FEAST

This is the feast of victory for our God.

      Alleluia.

Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain,

whose blood set us free to be people of God.

This is the feast of victory for our God.

      Alleluia.

Power and riches, wisdom and strength,

and honour and blessing and glory are his.

This is the feast of victory for our God.

      Alleluia.

Sing with all the people of God,

and join in the hymn of all creation:

Blessing, honour, glory and might be to God

and the Lamb for ever. Amen.

This is the feast of victory for our God.

      Alleluia.

For the Lamb who was slain has begun his reign.

      Alleluia.

This is the feast of victory for our God.

      Alleluia.

WHAT SHALL I RENDER

What shall I render to the Lord

for all his benefits to me?

I will offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving

and call on the name of the Lord.

I will take the cup of salvation

and will call on the name of the Lord.

I will pay my vows to the Lord now

in the presence of all his people,

in the courts of the house of the Lord,

in the midst of you, O Jerusalem.

JESUS, LAMB OF GOD

Jesus, Lamb of God,

      have mercy on us.

Jesus, bearer of our sins,

      have mercy on us.

Jesus, redeemer of the world,

      grant us peace.

LET THE VINEYARDS

Let the vineyards be fruitful, Lord,

and fill to the brim our cup of blessing.

Gather a harvest from the seeds that were sown,

that we may be fed with the bread of life.

Gather the hopes and the dreams of all:

unite them with the prayers we offer now.

Grace our table with your presence,

and give us a foretaste of the feast to come.

SONG OF SIMEON

Now, Lord, you let your servant go in peace,

      your word has been fulfilled.

My own eyes have seen the salvation

which you have prepared in the sight of every people:

a light to reveal you to the nations,

and the glory of your people Israel.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

THANK THE LORD

Thank the Lord and sing his praise;

tell everyone what he has done.

Let all those who seek the Lord

rejoice and proudly bear his name.

He recalls his promises

and leads his people forth in joy

with shouts of thanksgiving.

Alle-alleluia.
