LUTHER’S MORNING PRAYER

I thank you, heavenly Father, through your dear Son, Jesus Christ, that you have protected me through the night from all harm and danger. I ask you to keep me this day, too, from all harm and danger, so that in all my thoughts, words, and deeds, I may please you. In your hands I place my body and soul and all that is mine. Let your holy angel be with me, so that the evil one may have no power over me. Amen.

OR

Thank you, Father in heaven, through your Son, Jesus Christ, for protecting me all night from harm and danger. Protect me today from all sin and evil, so that everything I do will please you. I put myself and all I have into your hands. Send your holy angel to be with me, so that the devil will have no power over me.  Amen.

LUTHER’S EVENING PRAYER

I thank you, heavenly Father, through your dear Son, Jesus Christ, that you have graciously protected me today. I ask you to forgive all my sins and the wrong which I have done. And graciously keep me this night. In your hands I place my body and soul and all that is mine. Let your holy angel be with me, so that the evil one may have no power over me. Amen.

OR

Thank you, Father in heaven, through your Son, Jesus Christ, for being good to me and protecting me today. Forgive me all the wrong things I have done. Protect  me tonight. I put myself and all I have into your hands. Send your holy angel to be with me, so that the devil will have no power over me.  Amen.

PRAYER FOR GRACE

Lord,  our heavenly Father, almighty and eternal God, you have brought us safely to the beginning of this day. Protect us today with your mighty power; let us fall into no sin, nor run into any kind of danger. But guide us in all things, so that we may always do what is right. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen.

PRAYER FOR PEACE

Lord God, from whom all holy desires, all good purposes and all right works proceed: Give to your servants that peace which the world cannot give. Defend us from the fear of our enemies, and set our hearts to obey your commandments, so that we may live on earth in rest and quietness. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Saviour, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen.

MISCELLANEOUS MORNING PRAYERS

Lord, king of heaven and earth,

may it please you this day

to guide, rule, and hallow our hearts and bodies,

and our thoughts, words and actions,

according to your commandments,

through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Loving Father,

our eternal friend,

may we never forget or dishonour you this day;

but in all places and in all activities

remember your presence and cherish your love,

for Jesus Christ's sake.

Amen.

In this hour of this day,

fill us, Lord, with your mercy

that, rejoicing throughout the whole day,

we may take delight in your praise,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Gracious Father, it is your will that we cast our cares on you,

for you care for us.

Keep us from all faithless fears and selfish anxieties,

and let no clouds of this earthly life

hide from us the light of your eternal love

which you have shown to us in Jesus Christ our Lord.

May we walk this day in the light of your face,

be guided by your eye,

sanctified by your Spirit,

and enabled to live to your glory.

Amen

MISCELLANEOUS EVENING PRAYERS

Lord, be with those who live in this house; drive away the devil and remove every trap he sets; let your holy angels stay in this place to keep it in peace; and let your blessing be always in it; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Lighten our darkness, O Lord, and in your great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night, for the love of your only Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Amen.

O Lord, support us all the day long of this troubled life, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, the busy world is hushed, the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then, Lord, in your mercy, grant us a safe lodging, a holy rest, and peace at last; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Be with us, merciful God, and protect us through the silent hours of this night, so that we who are wearied by the changes and chances of this fleeting world may rest on your eternal changelessness; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, as you rested in the tomb at the evening hour, and so sanctified the grave to be a bed of hope for your people: Lead us to sorrow for our sins, which were the cause of your suffering and death; and when our bodies lie in the dust, take us to live with you; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Amen.
